He was named to the first all-star team, as centre, in 1969- 1970 and as right wing in 1970-1971. He won the Jean Béliveau Trophy (best scorer) in 1970-1971, and was the top scorer in the playoffs in 1969-1970 and 1970-1971. While playing with the Quebec Remparts in 1969-1970 and 1970-1971, he won the Jean Rougeau Trophy (regular season championship) and the President’s Cup (playoff championship). He won the Memorial Cup in 1970-1971, as a member of the first Quebec-based club to earn this honour .
A prolific scorer , he led in terms of goals scored, both during the regular season and the playoffs, in both of the years he spent in the league. In the history of Canadian junior hockey, only five players have ever managed to score 100 goals in a season and Guy Lafleur is the only one to have succeeded in doing this twice. He scored 233 goals in 118 games with the QMJHL. His average of 1.98 goals per game is the best in Canadian junior hockey history. His record of 130 goals in 1970-1971 was bested only by Mario Lemieux who scored 133 in 1983- 1984 with the Laval Voisins. After earning 209 points in 1970-1971, he became one of 10 players in the history of the QMJHL and one of 11 players at the Canadian level to reach 200 points in a season.
Incredible game: At the Quebec Colisée, on February 5, 1971, he became the only player in Canadian junior hockey history to score five goals in the same period, setting this record in 14:10 minutes during the first 20 and ending the game with a total of 11 points (7 goals and 4 assists) helping the Remparts defeat the Rosemont National 14-1. In his honour, the Guy Lafleur Trophy has been given to the most valuable player in the playoffs since 1977-1978.
Information on his professional career Lafleur was the first player in the history of the QMJHL to be the first draft choice of the NHL, chosen by the Montreal Canadiens in 1971. He fully justified their decision, becoming the best scorer in the history of that club and earning a total of 1246 points in 961 games. He won the Stanley Cup no fewer than five times while with the Habs. Also played with the Rangers and the Nordiques.
