History 2021-2022

The City of Moncton owes a lot to current Wildcats owner Robert Irving. Without him, the franchise would have undoubtedly folded after its inaugural season in 1995-96.Steve Bernier

Irving transformed the Alpines into the Wildcats in 1996-97, and slowly but surely, the team became a part of the city's soul.

Thanks to 44 victories, Moncton enjoyed its first successful season in 1999-2000.

Then, in 2004, the Wildcats reached their first final where they eventually lost to the Gatineau Olympiques in five games.

Prior to the start of the 2005-06 season (see photos, on left), the Wildcats landed head coach Ted Nolan, who would lead them to their first regular season title as well as to their first President Cup championship.

Nicola RiopelThereafter, the City of Moncton hosted the prestigious Memorial Cup Tournament. For the first time in history, two QMJHL teams reached the final as the Remparts defeated the Wildcats to earn the CHL crown.

Following the 2006 Memorial Cup Tournament, Ted Nolan, Daniel Lacroix and Danny Flynn were hired to take over the bench duties of the New York Islanders (NHL).

In 2008-09, the Wildcats' defence was extraordinary. Their goaltender, Nicola Riopel, was outstanding. Riopel finished the regular season with the best goals-against-average in League history (2.01).

Champions 2010During the 2010 QMJHL Playoffs, the Wildcats were outstanding. In the Final Series, they won the championship in 6 games. It was the second postseason title for the Wildcats.

Conor GarlandIndividually, Conor Garland, a native of the United States, impressed the fans in 2014-15 and 2015-16, by winning two consecutive Scoring Championships in the QMJHL, with seasons of 129 and 128 points, respectively.
